Dear family & friends,
You may have heard of a missions organization called Youth With A Mission (also known as YWAM – pronounced “why-wham”). YWAM was founded by a man named Loren Cunningham in 1960 and has been mobilizing young people to spread the love of God to almost every country of the world ever since. YWAM’s mission and passion is to know God and make him known.
We recently graduated from Christ for The Nations Institute majoring in missions and our next step is to work with YWAM as full time missionaries. YWAM has a program where you do a 6 month Discipleship Training School, which is a requirement for applying as a YWAM staff member (something we are interested in doing after the DTS) and is a prerequisite to all of YWAM’s many other training programs.
After a lot of prayer and a lot of thought, we have applied to a Discipleship Training School (or DTS) in Mexico City, Mexico. This particular DTS has a focus on social justice issues such as human trafficking and modern day slavery. The DTS is split into two different phases – the first phase is called the lecture phase and it is during this time that we go through an intensive training process designed to develop character and a deep intimacy with God. The second phase is the outreach phase where we take everything we’ve learned from the lecture phase and apply it on a missions trip. Some of the countries we could be visiting are Honduras, India, and other cities in Mexico. The primary goal of the DTS is to rise up young leaders who are hungry to see change in the world and equip them to do just that.
Some of you may already know about our passion for missions and the burning desire God has placed in our hearts for children and justice issues such as human trafficking. It is estimated that 27 million people in the world today live in some sort of bondage. There are horrifying statistics of children being bought and sold into prostitution and the numbers are growing. These are just some of the issues that we would like to help change, and YWAM already has many strategic programs in place to combat these issues. We would like to ask if you would partner with us in this.
We have gotten to the place we are today because of a lot of prayer and because of wonderful people like you supporting us. We absolutely cannot do this alone. As much as this will be a great experience, we also know it will be physically, emotionally, and spiritually stretching at times. Your thoughts and prayers will be a huge blessing. In addition to needing prayer support, we are also in need of financial support. The DTS is going to cost approximately $9,400 depending on our outreach location, and there are several other factors such as health insurance, airfare, etc. We are currently working and saving up until September to try and cover some costs but it won’t cover it all. Please don’t feel obligated to give, but if you can, please prayerfully consider if God is leading you to do so.
We know that by making our needs known we are extending this amazing opportunity to those who would like to go but because of various reasons have been unable. We are blessed to be in a season of life where we are able to go, and another way for you to be involved is by supporting us. If you are able to support us financially, the best way to do so is through PayPal or you can send us a check directly. Our DTS will start on September 22, 2014 and we’ll need the first half of the tuition by then. Please join us in praying that all the finances come through and we ask for continued prayer support throughout our journey.
If you would like to receive updates on the things happening during the DTS, we are going to start a blog on our website where we will be posting updates, photos, videos, and monthly info of our life in the mission field and we encourage you to read. You can also e-mail us at email@example.com if you’d prefer to receive updates through e-mail.
If you would like more information about YWAM as an organization, their web-site is www.ywam.org. The web-site for the specific DTS that we are doing is www.ywamcmc.com and www.facebook.com/YWAMCMC Please contact us by email or phone if you have any questions.
Thank you so much and many blessings to you!
